Per my last post there is some free play in my steering and the car sways badly on sudden stops and changing lanes. Finally got under car for a closer inspection using some things I found in search....but still not certain if it is the rack. I changed out sway bar bushings, new adjustable tension rods, and new tie rods. BTW I also have adjustable camber and the rack bushings appear to be in great shape. With car off and steering in lock position there is still free play in the steering. I also notice there is some type of hard plastic covering or coupling that is dry rotted and crumbling where the steering rod meets the rack gear box. Also with car in the air and still in the lock position I can easily move the wheels back and forth which seems weird. Does this sound like the rack is shot? Or am I overlooking something? Any suggestions/advice appreciated.
